Siberian Huskies - Puppies - Where Do They Come From?

The ancestors of the Siberian Husky pulled sleds with hunting tools and game and were one of the few means of moving from one place to another. The dogs, in their turn, found much love on the part of their owners and were treasured greatly. Numerous drawings of working dogs confirm this fact. According to some notions, the dogs guarded the gates of the Heaven from people who mistreated the dogs on earth.

The first Siberian Huskies appeared on the continent at the beginning of the 20th century. A Russian named Goosak brought some Siberian Huskies to take part in a long-distance contest, "All-Alaska Sweepstakes." The Siberian Huskies were a great success and drew the attention of many sled dog professionals. Thus, a Norwegian musher, Leonhard Seppala, who is called the "world's greatest dog driver," won many trials with his Siberian Huskies.

It is interesting to know that Seppala's dogs are famous not only for outstanding results in sled dog racing. A monument to one of his Siberian Huskies, Balto, is found now in Central Park. This statue honors the feat of Siberian Huskies that did their best to bring a cure to Nome, an Alaskan town under a plague.

Siberian Huskies made their way to many countries not only as sled dogs but also as wonderful companions. The AKC was the first to recognize the breed in 1930. With the official breed recognition and appearance of breed clubs, the distribution of the Siberian Husky increased. The breed became popular in European countries some time later than in the United States. Yet, Siberian Huskies are gaining popularity and one of the most loved breeds all over the world.
