Siberian Huskies - Puppies - Origin

The Siberian Husky originates from the northern parts of Russia, particularly from Siberia. The Chukchi people used them as sled dogs to carry prey and necessary hunting equipment. Huskies were valued highly and shared the same house with their owners, which told upon their personality traits. Harsh weather conditions made Siberian Huskies susceptible to diseases and resistant to cold. Hard-working and devoted, Siberian Huskies acquired much popularity in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Europe, and other countries.

Siberian Huskies - Puppies - Appearance

The AKC recognized the Siberian Husky in 1930. The first breed standard appeared in 1932. The standard describes the picture of an ideal Siberian Husky and is a canon to stick to when breeding dogs. An adult Siberian Husky is of medium size. Dogs weigh from 45 to 50 pounds and stand about 22-23 inches at the shoulder. The corresponding parameters in females are 35-40 pounds and 21-22 inches. Overall, Siberian Huskies should be balanced, with a strong back and legs. The gait should not present any difficulty.

Siberian Huskies are practically odorless and shed once or twice a year. They are double-coated dogs and are comparatively easy to care for. The AKC standard approves of a great diversity of color patterns, from black to white. The eyes can be brown, blue, one of each, or parti-colored.

Siberian Huskies - Puppies - Needs

The Siberian Husky may be a wrong breed for you if you cannot supply it with enough exercise. The breed is generally sociable and enjoys the companionship of humans and other canines. The Siberian Husky needs much attention and will not do well alone.

Siberian Huskies need much space to run about. City dwellers should take care to walk their dogs on leash to prevent incidents connected with traffic. It is especially important when dealing with puppies from Siberian Huskies who are very active and do not always obey basic commands.
